June Update from Bella Vista

JUNE UPDATE FROM BELLA VISTA
Director of Photography Alexandra Cuesta with Hiroka Matsushima (Yuri) on set in April 2013.

To our friends near and far,
Greetings from production HQ in Missoula, Montana! Here’s an update on our busy spring!

What’s up?
The journey’s only just begun! We are continuing on the festival circuit for another 6-12 months. In preparation, we’ve been tying up loose ends — namely, a gorgeous final sound mix from our fabulous team at Digital Sorcery. And we’re proud to announce that we recently received a grant to help with finishing from the Montana Arts Council!

Following a North American premiere, we are planning a Montana tour to bring Bella Vista to the beautiful place it calls home. If you’re in Montana and would like to bring Bella Vista to your community, we’d love to hear from you! Email us at bellavista@slowtale.net. Looking forward to distribution, we’ve partnered with a Los Angeles-based sales company to help us explore options. So: stay tuned for information on upcoming screenings this fall, and more, as we continue on this exciting path!

“This is what a debut film from a first time director should look like… [Vera Brunner-Sung] will certainly be a strong voice in the new American independent cinema.” Post-Rotterdam, we’ve collected some lovely acclaim. Check out this report from the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), and, if you read Spanish, this article called “What Cinema Can Do” in the Madrid-based El Estado Mental.
Last but not least…
Perhaps you know that Bella Vista is a recipient of the Montana Film Office’s Big Sky Film Grant. We’ve been hard at work editing behind-the-scenes videos that will be featured on the Film Office’s YouTube channel — you’ll hear from our cast, crew and production team on the development of the film, the experience of working on it, and what we think it means for filmmaking in Montana. We’ll let you know as soon as these are live! Shout outs to Robert Bohannon and Tom Stagg, our intrepid videographers who did an excellent job capturing the life of our set.
That’s a wrap on our June update! Thanks so much for your interest in our film. For all the latest, be sure to visit our website, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Have a safe and relaxing summer,

VERA BRUNNER-SUNG, writer & director • JERI RAFTER, producer • BROOKE SWANEY, producer

Strategic Investment Highlight: Shawna Moore

Here’s one of the first projects funded (this summer) through our new Strategic Investment Grant program.

Shawna Moore is an encaustic artist and she applied for funding to pay a director for the creative component of a promotional video for her website and provided personal funds to match the grant and cover the production and post-production costs.

Go check it out….. under the workshop tab of her website.

Creative provided by Heath Korvola.
